Sardines
A baby sardine saw her first submarine
She was scared and watched through a peephole.
"Oh, come, come, come," said the sardine's Mum,
"It's only a tin full of people."
Goodbye SSGo away girl, go away
And let me pack my dreams
Now where did I put those yesteryears
Made up with broken seams
Where shall I sweep the pieces
My God they still look new
There's a taxi waiting at the door
But there's only room for you
The Soldiers At LauroYoung are our dead
Like babies they lie
The wombs they blest once
Not healed dry
And yet - too soon
Into each space
A cold earth falls
On colder face.
Quite still they lie
These fresh-cut reeds
Clutched in earth
Like winter seeds
But they will not bloom
When called by spring
To burst with leaf
And blossoming
They sleep on
In silent dust
As crosses rot
And helmets rust.
Down the Stream the Swans All Glide
Down the stream the swans all glide
It's quite the cheapest way to ride.
Their legs get wet,
Their tummies wetter
I think after all
The bus is better.
Rain
There are holes in the sky
Where the rain gets in,
But they're ever so small
That's why rain is thin.
